Like a CD drive, a DVD drive uses a laser to read digitized (binary) data that have been encoded onto the disc in the form of tiny pits tracing a spiral track between the centre of the disc and its outer edge. By the end of 1995 the competing groups had agreed on a common format, to be known as DVD, that combined elements of both proposals, and in 1996 the first DVD players went on sale in Japan. In 1994–95 two competing formats were introduced, the Multimedia CD (MMCD) of Sony and Philips and the Super Density (SD) disc of a group led by the Toshiba Corporation and Time Warner Inc. The DVD represents the second generation of compact disc (CD) technology, and, in fact, soon after the release of the first audio CDs by the Sony Corporation and Philips Electronics NV in 1982, research was under way on storing high-quality video on the same 120-mm (4.75-inch) disc. Its most prominent commercial application is for playing back recorded motion pictures and television programs (hence the designation “digital video disc”), though read-only, recordable, and even erasable and rewritable versions can be used on personal computers to store large quantities of almost any kind of data (hence “digital versatile disc”). I'm just sharing for those who might have this issue. For some reason, it's an install bug that will hit or miss. If this doesn't solve it, not sure what to tell you. Restart the installation of the Encyclopaedia (you may be asked to uninstall or delete elements of previous installation) If it's not there, check in the Volumes\Macintosh_HD\EB_CD_DVD\BCD_New\data\cd\shared\fonts and install the fonts from there.ĥ. ttf files and paste them in C:\Windows\Fonts folder Go to: $WORKROOT$/data/cd/shared/fonts, then copy all. When unrarred you will find $WORKROOT$ folder along with a couple of jar files. Unrar ''Resources1'' to your desktop (only temporarily)Ĥ. You can browse the disc and find ''Resource1'' rar file in: BritannicaDVD/installapp/Contents/Resources/Java/ Disc1/InstData/ģ. Search for ''resource1'' rar file among the files within Britannica DVDĢ. If the program stops installing on a ?.TTF file, try this trick.ġ. (Again, this may work, but then again, may not) It's as if it's looking for the font file, or it can't find the file as it installs and seeing if the file needs to be installed. The issue is, during the install, it stops on a font file. This is going to vary with different people. On a Windows 7, there was an install issue but I found a work around, On Windows 8 and above, also an install issue but the work around worked for Windows 8 but not for Windows 10. I installed this on a Windows XP machine and it worked great without issues. For the record, the install is hit or miss.
